We are a group of passionate fathers, mothers and children who understand the value and significance of a father both in the life of his child and family. A group that has seen the negative impact on family life based on society’s archaic views of fatherhood and has dared to challenge it.
The newly rebranded TFATT was formed in the year 2012. The idea for such an association was birthed as a result of what the founder, Mr. Rhondall Feeles, had experienced at the hands of the Trinidad and Tobago Family Court system. Despite previously playing an active role and developing a strong bond between his son and himself Mr. Feeles would be given no more than 4 days per month visitation access to his child. Devastated and broken-hearted by the actions of the judiciary, Mr. Feeles in his initial response to the court’s ruling, called upon the national community for support through the media. As a result, a number of men who were encountering similar difficulties and experiences responded to the call. Among those men were Mr. Wendell Grant, Mr. Darrel Phillip, Mr. Gareth Lalla, Mr. Dexter Mahadeo, and a number of others.
Following this initial group many others, both men and women emerged to support, strengthen and take the association to another level. The association operates to date with the inclusion of many fathers and mothers, together with various stakeholders who have joined in solidarity, bringing forward their talents and resources with the hope of achieving common goals. The association continues to grow and develop in order to solidify its position and fulfil its vision as “The leading advocate and support network for parental rights in Trinidad and Tobago.”. The association also remains committed to its mission, which is “To enable fathers to participate equitably in parenting their children.”
